Freeport Seeks Loans to Build Smelters

PT Freeport Indonesia explores loans from banks to finance the construction of mineral processing and refining facilities (smelters). The Freeport smelter facility is located in the Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estate (JIIPE), Gresik, East Java.

Freeport Indonesia President Director Tony Wenas said that at least 15 banks were interested in financing the smelter project and were in the process of being discussed.

"Composed of foreign banks and national banks," he said when met at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Office.
But Tony is still reluctant to mention the scheme, the value of loans and the financing portion that will be met by banks. He also did not want to inform how much investment had been made by Freeport from internal cash.
"The amount, interest and installments are still being discussed," he said.
In addition, Freeport management is in talks with PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (lnalum) regarding the participation in the construction of a smelter. Currently Inalum has a majority ownership or 51.23% stake in Freeport Indonesia. But what is certain, Freeport is targeting the amount and value of financing to be confirmed this year. Because, in early 2020 Freeport targeted the smelter project to enter the physical construction phase.
As of February this year, the progress of the Freeport smelter construction still reached 3.86%. This amount has fulfilled the six-monthly development plan in the periodic evaluation by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

Freeport Cari Pinjaman untuk Membangun Smelter
PT Freeport Indonesia menjajaki pinjaman dari perbankan untuk membiayai pembangunan fasilitas pengolahan dan pemurnian mineral (smelter). Fasilitas smelter Freeport berlokasi di Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estate (JIIPE), Gresik, Jawa Timur.
Direktur Utama Freeport Indonesia, Tony Wenas menyebutkan, setidaknya ada 15 bank yang berminat membiayai proyek smelter dan sedang dalam proses pembicaraan.
"Terdiri dari bank asing dan bank nasional," kata dia saat ditemui di Kantor Kementerian ESDM.
Namun Tony masih enggan menyebutkan skema, nilai pinjaman dan bagian pembiayaan yang akan dipenuhi perbankan. Dia juga belum mau menginformasikan berapa investasi yang dikeluarkan Freeport dari kas internal.
"Besaran, bunga dan cicilan masih dibicarakan," kata dia.
Selain itu, manajemen Freeport sedang melakukan pembicaraan dengan PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (lnalum) terkait bagian partisipasi dalam pembangunan smelter. Saat ini Inalum sudah menguasai mayoritas kepemilikan atau 51,23% saham Freeport Indonesia. Namun yang pasti, Freeport menargetkan besaran bagian dan nilai pembiayaan sudah bisa dipastikan pada tahun ini. Sebab, pada awal tahun 2020 Freeport menargetkan proyek smelter masuk fase konstruksi fisik.
Hingga Februari tahun ini, progres pembangunan smelter Freeport masih mencapai 3,86%. Jumlah itu sudah memenuhi rencana pembangunan per enam bulanan dalam evaluasi periodik oleh Kementerian ESDM.
