Freeport Plans to Apply for Added Export Quota

PT Freeport Indonesia will submit additional copper concentrate export quotas. Currently the export quota permitted by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is 198,282 tons. The quota is until March 2019, aka for one year the period of export permit.

Riza said Freeport's production this year was around 1.2 million tons. Of that amount, one million tons were sent to PT Smelting to be purified. While the remaining exports to several countries such as Japan, Korea, China and India. He said the additional quota would be absorbed by smelters in several of these countries.

Freeport's export quota this year is far lower than the previous period which reached 1.2 million tons. The low export quota is because Freeport is in transition from the Grasberg open pit to the underground mine.

It is planned that underground mining production will return to normal in 2022. Switch it to an underground mine because of the depletion of copper reserves in the open pit.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources provides an extension of the concentrate export permit because the construction of the Freeport smelter meets the requirements. The progress of the smelter reached 3.86% as of February.
Riza revealed that the ground-breaking smelter will begin in 2020. It's just that he hasn't been able to ascertain exactly when the construction phase began. But he asserted the smelter will be operational by the end of 2022.

Freeport Berencana Ajukan Penambahan Kuota Ekspor
PT Freeport Indonesia akan mengajukan penambahan kuota ekspor konsentrat tembaga. Saat ini kuota ekspor yang diizinkan Kementerian Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral (ESDM) sebesar 198.282 ton. Kuota tersebut hingga Maret 2019 alias selama satu tahun periode izin ekspor.
Juru bicara Freeport Indonesia Riza Pratama mengatakan penambahan kuota itu bukan karena peningkatan produksi. Melainkan dari stok di tambang terbuka (open pit) Grasberg yang masih bisa dimanfaatkan. Hanya saja dia belum bisa memperkirakan penambahan kuota yang diajukan serta waktu pengajuannya.
“Kami masih menghitung berapa stok di open pit. Jadi belum tahu kapan penambahan kuota diajukan,” kata Riza.
Riza menuturkan produksi Freeport tahun ini sekitar 1,2 juta ton. Dari jumlah itu sebanyak satu juta ton dikirim ke PT Smelting untuk dimurnikan. Sedangkan sisanya ekspor ke beberapa negara seperti Jepang, Korea, Tiongkok serta India. Dia menyebut penambahan kuota bakal diserap oleh smelter di beberapa negara tersebut.
“Kalau yang minat atau standby buyer sih pasti ada. Tapi kan makanya besarannya berapa tetap perlu kami hitung,” ujarnya.
Kuota ekspor Freeport tahun ini jauh lebih rendah ketimbang periode sebelumnya yang mencapai 1,2 juta ton. Rendahnya kuota ekspor lantaran Freeport sedang dalam masa transisi dari tambang terbuka Grasberg menuju tambang bawah tanah.
Rencananya produksi tambang bawah tanah kembali normal pada 2022 mendatang. Beralihnya ke tambang bawah tanah lantaran habisnya cadangan tembaga di tambang terbuka.
“Reklamasi open pit tentunya kami lakukan,” kata Riza.
Kementerian ESDM memberikan perpanjangan izin ekspor konsentrat lantaran pembangunan smelter Freeport memenuhi persyaratan. Adapun kemajuan smelter itu hingga Februari kemarin mencapai 3,86%. Riza mengungkapkan ground-breaking smelter itu akan dimulai pada 2020 mendatang.
Hanya saja dia belum bisa memastikan kapan tepatnya tahap konstruksi dimulai. Namun dia menegaskan smelter bakal beroperasi pada akhir 2022 mendatang.
