Freeport Indonesia's Production Declines More Than 50%

Freeport McMoran noted the realization of production from its mines in Indonesia in the first half of 2019 fell by more than 50% compared to the same period last year. The decline in production was due to Freeport starting the transition from an open pit mine to an underground mine.

Dalam keterangan resminya, Freeport menyatakan juga akan mencapai target penjualan tembaga dan emas tahun untuk tambangnya di Indonesia pada tahun ini. Rincinya, penjualan tembaga ditargetkan sebesar 600 juta pon dan emas 800 ribu ounce.
Untuk itu, PT Freeport Indonesia akan terus memantau kondisi geoteknis untuk menetapkan jangka waktu penambahan di tambang terbuka. Material yang tidak ditambang dari tambang terbuka, diharapkan bisa diakses melalui tambang bawah tanah Grasberg Block Cave.
“Dengan Freeport Indonesia mulai menggeser tambangnya dari tambang terbuka ke tambang bawah tanah, produksi metal diharapkan mulai meningkat pada 2021,” demikian tertulis dalam keterangan resmi Freeport McMoran.
Cari Pendanaan
Dengan diperpanjangnya kontrak tambangnya dari 2031 menjadi 2041, Freeport Indonesia berkomitmen membangun pabrik pengolahan dan pemurnian (smelter) dengan target penyelesaian 21 Desember 2023. Freeport telah memulai penyiapan lahan setelah ditetapkan lokasi smelter berdekatan dengan smelter eksisting di Gresik.
Pada saat yang sama, Freeport juga mengerjakan rekayasa rinci. Sehingga, perkiraan biaya pembangunan smelter yang lebih tepat dapat diperoleh akhir tahun ini. Perkiraan awal biaya investasi smelter ini sekitar US$ 3 miliar.
Adkerson menjelaskan, pihaknya telah mempertimbangkan sejumlah skema pembangunan smelter ini. Salah satunya yakni peluang untuk membentuk kemitraan dan entitas yang bisa saja dikonsolidasikan ataupun tidak. Skema ini menjadi salah satu opsi Freeport.
“Tapi saat ini pilihan terbaik setelah mempertimbangkan semua faktor, yakni melalui pembiayaan utang melalui Freeport Indonesia. Tetapi alternatif lain bisa saja muncul,” ujarnya.
Menurut Quirk, pihaknya telah memulai diskusi dengan beberapa lembaga pemberi pinjaman tentang pendanaan smelter. Pada tahun ini, biaya pembangunan smelter memang belum signifikan. Tetapi biaya yang dibutuhkan ini akan mulai naik pada kisaran 2020, dan sebagian besar perlu dikucurkan pada 2021 dan 2022.
“Tetapi kami berharap dapat memperoleh pembiayaan utang yang memungkinkan kami mendanai biaya tersebut dan melakukan amortisasi pembiayaan utang ini untuk jangka panjang,” jelas dia.
Meski demikian, dikatakannya biaya pembangunan smelter ini juga turun ditangguh pemegang saham lain dari Freeport Indonesia. Freeport McMoran akan menanggung biaya investasi sebesar saham yang dimiliki, yakni 49%. Sementara sisanya akan ditanggung oleh PT Inalum (Persero).
“Freeport Indonesia tidak memiliki utang, jadi posisinya bagus. Kami telah menerima respon dari sejumlah lender untuk pendanaan proyek ini [smelter],” tutur Quirk.
Freeport Indonesia berencana membangun smelter tembaga berkapasitas 2 juta ton konsentrat. Proyek smelter ini berlokasi di Kawasan Industri Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estate (JIIPE) di Gresik, Jawa Timur.
