Google Inc, raksasa Internet asal Mountain View, California, Amerika Serikat, menangguk keuntungan jumbo dari bisnis mereka di lrlandia. Tahun ini, keuntungan Google di negeri itu mencapai 22,6 miliar euro lsekitar Rp 327,4 triliun naik 23 persen dari tahun lalu. Nilai itu mencapai sepertiga dari total keuntungan perusahaan secara global. Pendapatan yang besar di lrlandia diperoleh setelah perusahaan memusatkan operasi penjualan iklan digital dari Dublin. Satu satunya negara yang berhasil menarik pajak Google adalah lnggris. Otoritas pajak lnggris, Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC), sukses memaksa Google membayar 130 juta pound sterling (Rp 2,11 triliun) pada Januari lalu. Jumlah itu adalah pajak terutang sejak 2005. Pembayaran ini diikuti dengan masa audit terbuka selama enam tahun oleh HMRC.
Namun keberhasilan lnggris menuai kritik.
