The challenge in the transition is to maintain the level of concentrate production. Because, it affects the acceptance.
PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminum (Persero) or Lnalum is preparing for the transition period after the acquisition of PT Freeport Indonesia's shares by preparing to operate underground mining in Timika, Mimika Regency, Papua. Copper concentrate production is expected to decline by 60 percent during the transition period.
Inalum Head of Corporate Communications & Government Relations Rendi A Witular said, the post-acquisition work was to ensure the transition from open mining to underground mining operated smoothly. The transition period is estimated to require time three years. The full transition will begin in 2019.
"These transition periods are very crucial. Need expertise from Freeport as the mine operator. Therefore, it is very important for Inalum to maintain that there are no disruptions during the mining process, "said Rendi in Jakarta.
Underground mining by Freeport
Underground mining by Freeport in Timika is among the most complex and complex in the world. Full underground mining is expected to materialize in 2022. Chairman of the Indonesian Mining Institute Irwandy Arif said the biggest challenge in the transition period was to maintain the level of concentrate production which directly affected the company's revenue. Concentrate is the result of processing raw minerals (ore) before the mineral refining stage.
"Receipts will be disrupted if production targets are not achieved due to technical problems, such as disruption of soft and wet rocks or seismic disturbances. Hopefully this won't happen, "Irwandy said.
Conducive.
Throughout 2017, the average concentrate produced by Freeport from mining in Papua was 4,770 tons per day. The transition of open mining to underground mining is expected to reduce concentrate production to 60 percent. On the investment side, underground mining financing from 2018 to 2041 is estimated to reach 14 billion US dollars, equivalent to Rp. 201 trillion.
President Director Tony Wenas
PT Freeport Indonesia President Director Tony Wenas when the surrender of the Special Mining Business Permit (IUPK) from the government last week said that with 10 percent local government share ownership, he hoped the field would be more conducive. He admitted there had been a disturbance security around the Freeport operations area in Timika on Friday (12/21/2018). Inalum has completed the payment of the purchase of Freeport shares worth 3.85 billion US dollars or almost Rp. 60 trillion.
With this purchase, Indonesia's ownership of Freeport rose from 9.36 percent to 51.23 percent. From that figure, the Papua Provincial Government and the Mimika Regency Government have a 10 percent stake. Payment of the share divestment also marks a change in Freeport's operating status from the contract of work (KK) to IUPK. IUPK guarantees the extension of Freeport's operations until 2041 and stable fiscal and regulatory guarantees.

Inalum Siapkan Masa Transisi
Masa transisi diperkirakan membutuhkan waktu tiga tahun.
