The holding of the State Mining Holding Company, PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminum (Inalum), continues to push the value added of mining products through the Inalum downstream program to develop lithium batteries for the use of electric vehicles.

Inalum yesterday held a visit to several companies in China. One of the agenda is to meet with Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt Company Ltd., the world's largest producer of battery materials used by electric vehicles.

PT Inalum's Managing Director, Budi Gunadi Sadikin said, the partnership was explored because Huayou is a company that has experience in the mining industry, especially in producing integrated cobalt, nickel and lithium minerals.
"Inalum continues to aggressively look for strategic partners who can provide access to the technology field and have good experience," he said
In fact, Inalum and its subsidiary, PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTM), also plan to build a plant with a High Pressure Acid Leaching (HPAL) technology and Rotary Kiln Electric Furnace (RKEF) through cooperation with Huayou. The two factories are expected to encourage the downstream nickel program to become the raw material for lithium batteries.

Since mid last year, Huayou plans to build a nickel smelter in Indonesia to meet the demand for these commodities in the battery industry. The corporation will invest US $ 1.83 billion in Indonesia. At present the company is looking for local partners.
"Hopefully this exploration can produce a concrete collaboration with the lnalum to advance the mining downstream industry in Indonesia," Budi said.
Meanwhile the Director of Operations and Production of ANTM, Hartono said, to develop the electric battery, his party indeed continued to carry out explorations. Understandably, currently Aneka Tambang saves the potential of a very large nickel commodity, but has not been utilized properly. Even though the low-grade nickel below 1.8% contains cobalt, which is an important component in the process of making batteries.

"This is an opportunity for ANTM. People say metal the future. So, we will look for partners who have the technology. There are some that are being explored," Hartono said
In a written statement, BUMN Minister Rini Soemarno said the exploration of cooperation must be carried out so that Inalum can have strategic partners in the field of technology and development needed for downstreaming. As a result, the domestic mining processing industry can develop.

Inalum Menjajaki Pengembangan Baterai Mobil Listrik
Induk Holding BUMN Pertambangan, PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum), terus mendorong nilai tambah produk tambang melalui program hilirisasi Inalum ingin mengembangkan baterai litium untuk penggunaan kendaraan listrik.
Orang bilang metal the future.
