Freeport Extends Grasberg Mine

PT Freeport Indonesia opened an additional area at the Grosberg open pit during the second quarter of 2019 to extend the gold don copper ore mining process in the region.
Quoting a report released by Freeport-McMoRan Inc., the addition of the area makes mining options at the Grasberg open pit possible to continue until the III / 2019 quarter or even longer. In the initial projection, mining in the open pit will expire in June 2019.
Changes in the mining schedule at the open pit delayed access to high-grade ore that was previously estimated to be possible in quarter II / 2019. Thus, Freeport copper production in the quarter was lower than the projection in April 2019.

"The revised mining plan at the Grasberg open pit is expected to provide an opportunity for higher production for this year compared to projections in April 2019," quoted Freeport management in its report on Wednesday (3/7).
Freeport Indonesia will continue to monitor geotechnical conditions to determine the level of mining in the Grasberg open pit. Meanwhile, material that has not been mined there can be mined through the Grasberg Block Cave underground mine.

Regarding the Grasberg Block Cave underground mine, ore extraction in the block increased during the second quarter of 2019. If in the first quarter of 2019 an average of 5,000 tons of ore per day, the extraction quintal II / 2019 will be 9,000 tons per day.
The Grasberg Block Cave ore production is expected to continue to increase to 15,000 tons per day by the end of this year. By 2020, ore production is expected to reach 30,000 tons per day and will continue to be increased to 130,000 tons per day by 2023.
From Grasberg Block Cave, the company hopes to produce an additional 17 billion pounds of copper and 14 million ounces of gold. This also makes Grasberg Block Cave one of the world's largest copper and gold deposits.

For other underground mining blocks, Deep Mill Level Zone (DMLZ), ore production in the second quarter of 2019 was recorded at around 9,000 tons per day. The amount increased and the average production in the first quarter of 2019 was 6,800 tons per day.
The mine is expected to reach a production level of 11,000 tons of ore per day by the end of 2019. By 2020, ore production will increase to 28,000 tons per day and reach 80,000 tons per day by 2022. From the mine, it is expected that there will be an additional 8 billion pounds of copper and 8 million ounces of gold during his lifetime.
PRODUCTION dropped
Based on Freeport-McMoRan's I / 2019 quarterly report, the copper production of the company operating in Papua only reached 145 million pounds. The amount fell 53.38% compared to copper production in the same period last year of 311 million pounds.
In direct proportion to production, Freeport Indonesia's copper sales also dropped dramatically. In the first quarter of this year, Freeport Indonesia's copper sales were only 174 million pounds, down 45.45% compared to the same period last year of 319 million pounds.
Similar results also occur for gold commodities. Freeport Indonesia's gold production in the first quarter of 2019 was 162,000 ounces, a drop of 72.77% from the realization of the same period last year of 595,000 ounces. Its sales also experienced a significant decline of 61.03% and 603,000 ounces to 235,000 ounces.

Previously, Chief Executive Officer Richard C. Adkerson said that Freeport Indonesia's production would indeed drop dramatically this year. However, along with the operation of underground mines, specifically the Grasberg Block Cave and Deep MLZ, copper ore production will return to high starting in 2021.
"We are on the right track to have sustainable production from these mines, so we can supply processing plants we are up to more than 200,000 tons per day, "he said.

Freeport-McMoRan Inc.'s Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer Kathleen L. Quirk added that the decline in production in this year was expected beforehand. However, his party believes that production for the export quota can be higher than the quota provided by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) as many as 198,282 tons of concentrate per year and will add additional quotas.
She said that the additional quota was indeed not too significant. However, his party wants to get certainty of space for exports because there is a possibility that production from open pit can be higher than projected.

Freeport Perpanjang Tambang Grasberg
PT Freeport Indonesia membuka area tambahan di tambang terbuka Grosberg sepanjang kuartal II/2019 untuk memperpanjang proses penambangan bijih tembaga don emas di wilayah tersebut.
Mengutip laporan yang dirilis Freeport-McMoRan Inc., penambahan area tersebut membuat opsi penambangan di tambang terbuka Grasberg bisa berlanjut hingga kuartal III/2019 atau bahkan lebih lama lagi. Pada proyeksi awal, penambangan di tambang terbuka tersebut akan berakhir pada Juni 2019.
Perubahan jadwal penambangan di tambang terbuka tersebut menunda akses terhadap bijih dengan kadar tinggi yang diperkirakan sebelumnya bisa dilakukan
pada kuartal II/2019. Dengan demikian, produksi tembaga Freeport pada, kuartal tersebut lebih rendah dari proyeksi pada April 2019.
“Revisi rencana penambangan di tambang terbuka Grasberg diharapkan dapat memberikan peluang lebih tingginya produksi untuk tahun ini dibandingkan dengan proyeksi pada April 2019,” mengutip manajemen Freeport dalam laporannya, Rabu (3/7).
Pihak Freeport Indonesia akan terus memantau kondisi geoteknis untuk menentukan tingkat penambangan di tambang terbuka Grasberg. Adapun, material yang tidak sempat ditambang di sana bisa ditambang melalui tambang bawah tanah Grasberg Block Cave.
Terkait dengan tambang bawah tanah Grasberg Block Cave, ekstraksi bijih pada blok tersebut meningkat sepanjang kuartal II/2019. Jika pada kuartal I/2019 rata-ratanya sebanyak 5.000 ton bijih per hari, pada kuanal II/2019 ekstraksinya menjadi 9.000 ton per hari.
Produksi bijih dari Grasberg Block Cave diperkirakan akan terus meningkat menjadi 15.000 ton per hari pada akhir tahun ini. Pada 2020, produksi bijih diperkirakan bisa mencapai 30.000 ton per hari dan akan terus ditingkatkan menjadi 130.000 ton per hari pada 2023.
Dari Grasberg Block Cave, perusahaan berharap agar bisa menghasilkan tambahan 17 miliar pon tembaga dan 14 juta ounce emas. Hal tersebut sekaligus menjadikan Grasberg Block Cave sebagai salah satu deposit tembaga dan emas terbesar dunia.
Untuk blok tambang bawah tanah lainnya, Deep Mill Level Zone (DMLZ), produksi bijih pada kuartal II/2019 tercatat sekitar 9.000 ton per hari. Jumlah tersebut naik dan rata-rata produksi pada kuartal I/2019 sebanyak 6.800 ton per hari. Tambang tersebut diperkirakan akan mencapai tingkat produksi sebanyak 11.000 ton bijih per hari pada akhir 2019.
Pada 2020, produksi bijih akan meningkat menjadi 28.000 ton per hari dan mencapai 80.000 ton per hari pada 2022. Dari tambang tersebut, diharapkan akan ada tambahan 8 miliar pon tembaga dan 8 juta ounce emas selama masa hidupnya.
PRODUKSI turun
Berdasarkan laporan kinerja kuartal I/2019 Freeport-McMoRan, produksi tembaga perusahaan yang beroperasi di Papua tersebut hanya mencapai 145 juta pon. Jumlah tersebut turun 53,38% dibandingkan dengan produksi tembaga pada periode yang sama tahun lalu sebanyak 311 juta pon.
Berbanding lurus dengan produksi, penjualan tembaga Freeport Indonesia juga turun drastis. Pada kuartal pertama tahun ini, penjualan tembaga Freeport Indonesia hanya 174 juta pon atau turun 45,45% dibandingkan dengan periode yang sama tahun lalu sebanyak 319 juta pon.
Hasil serupa juga terjadi untuk komoditas emas. Produksi emas Freeport Indonesia pada kuartal I/2019 sebanyak 162.000 ounce atau turun drastis 72,77% dari realisasi produksi pada periode yang sama tahun lalu sebanyak 595.000 ounce. Penjualannya pun mengalami penurunan signifikan sebesar 61,03% dan 603.000 ounce menjadi 235.000 ounce.
Sebelumnya, Chief Executive Officer Richard C. Adkerson mengatakan bahwa produksi- Freeport Indonesia memang bakal turun drastis pada tahun ini. Namun, seiring dengan mulai beroperasinya tambang bawah tanah, khususnya Grasberg Block Cave dan Deep MLZ, produksi bijih tembaga akan kembali tinggi mulai 2021.
“Kami berada pada jalur yang tepat untuk memiliki produksi yang berkelanjutan dari tambang-tambang tersebut, sehingga bisa memasok pabrik pengolahan
kami hingga lebih dari 200.000 ton per hari,” ujarnya.
Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer Freeport-McMoRan Inc. Kathleen L. Quirk menambahkan bahwa penurunan produksi pada tahun ini memang sudah diperkirakan sebelumnya. Namun, pihaknya meyakini produksi untuk jatah ekspor bisa lebih tinggi dari kuota yang diberikan oleh Kementerian Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral (ESDM) sebanyak 198.282 ton konsentrat per tahun dan akan megajukan tambahan kuota.
Ia mengatakan bahwa tambahan kuota tersebut memang tidak terlalu signifikan. Namun, pihaknya ingin mendapatkan kepastian ruang untuk ekspor karena ada kemungkinan produksi dari tambang terbuka bisa lebih tinggi dari proyeksi.
“Saya rasa sekitar 40.000 ton konsentrat. Ini memang tidak signifikan bila dibandingkan dengan kapasitas smelter kami,” tutur Kathleen.
