Freeport's Export Quota to Be 700,000 Tons

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources agreed to add an additional recommendation on the export quota of copper concentrate for PT Freeport Indonesia to a total of 700,000 tons.
ESDM Ministry's Director of Mineral Development and Business Yunus Saefulhak said the export recommendations given by the government were in accordance with the Work Plan and Budget (RKAB) of the filing year.
Initially, for the period March 2019 to March 2020, Freeport's export recommendations were 198,282 tons of concentrate. The additional provided by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is also greater than the previous estimate of only around 300,000 tons.
According to him, the addition of Freeport's production is due to the optimization of surface mines. With the optimization of surface mines, production that should stop in 2019 can be extended again.
"Production is increasing because he is optimizing surface mines, if yesterday he wanted to run out in the middle of this year, now it is optimized, 2019 is still production in the surface," he said.

In addition, the progress of the Freeport smelter is also considered to be on target. Freeport-McMoRan Chief Executive Officer Richard C. Adkerson said, after the open-pit mining transition, Freeport would be able to produce copper and gold in greater quantities.
During the transition, copper production at the Grasberg Mine decreased 58.97% from 658 million pounds in semester I / 2018 to 270 million pounds in semester I / 2019.
Meanwhile, gold production decreased by 76.32% from 1,335 million ounces in semester I / 2018 to 316 million ounces in semester I / 2019. According to him, the agreement to increase export quotas is due to the estimated higher production volume related to the change in PTFI's production plan.
"As PTFI's mining transition from open pit to underground mining, production is expected to increase in 2021," he said.
So far, Freeport Indonesia still uses the previously agreed export quota, namely on March 8, 2019 totaling 198,282 tons of concentrate. The quota drastically decreased from the previous period which reached 1.25 million tons.
In addition, Adkerson said Freeport had committed to the Indonesian government to build a smelter for 5 years in December 2018. With this scheduling, the smelter with an investment of around US $ 3 billion must be operational by the end of 2023.

Kementerian Energi dan SUmber Daya Mineral menyetujui tambahan rekomendasi tambahan kuota ekspor konsentrat tembaga untuk PT Freeport Indonesia menjadi total 700.000 ton. Direktur Pembinaan dan Pengusahaan Mineral Kementerian ESDM Yunus Saefulhak mengatakan, rekomendasi ekspor yang diberikan pemerintah telah sesuai dengan Rencana Kerja dan Anggaran Biaya (RKAB) tahun pengajuan.
Awalnya, untuk periode Maret 2019 hingga Maret 2020, rekomendasi ekspor Freeport adalah sebanyak 198.282 ton konsentrat. Tambahan yang diberikan Kementerian ESDM juga lebih besar dari perkiraan sebelumnya yang hanya sekitar 300.000 ton.
Menurutnya, penambahan produksi Freeport karena optimalisasi tambang permukaan. Dengan optimalisasi tambang permukaan, produksi yang seharusnya berhenti di 2019 dapat diperpanjang lagi.
“Produksi meningkat karena dia optimasi tambang permukaan, kalau kemarin mau habis pertengahan tahun ini, sekarang dioptimasi, 2019 masih produksi di permukaaan,” katanya.
Selain itu, progres smelter Freeport juga dinilai masih sesuai target. Chief Executive Officer Freeport-McMoRan Richard C. Adkerson mengatakan, pasca transisi tambang terbuka, Freeport akan mampu menghasilkan produksi tembaga dan emas dalam jumlah lebih besar. Selama transisi berlangsung, produksi tembaga di Tambang Grasberg menurun 58,97% dari 658 juta pound pada semester I/2018 menjadi 270 juta pound pada semester I/2019.
Sementara itu, produksi emas menurun 76,32% dari 1.335 juta ons pada semester I/2018 menjadi 316 juta ounce pada semester I/2019. Menurutnya, pegajuan untuk meningkatkan kuota ekspor lantaran volume produksi yang diperkirakan lebih tinggi terkait dengan perubahan rencana produksi PTFI itu.
“Seiring dengan transisi pertambangan PTFI dari tambang terbuka ke bawah tanah, produksi diharapkan meningkat pada 2021," katanya.
Sejauh ini, Freeport Indonesia masih menggunakan kuota ekspor yang disetujui sebelumnya, yakni pada 8 Maret 2019 sebanyak 198.282 ton konsentrat. Kuota tersebut menyusut drastis dari periode sebelumnya yang mencapai 1,25 juta ton.
Selain itu, Adkerson mengatakan Freeport telah berkomitmen pada dengan pemerintah Indonesia untuk membangun smelter selama 5 tahun pada Desember 2018. Dengan penjadwalan tersebut, smelter yang investasinya sekitar US$ 3 miliar tersebut harus sudah beroperasi pada akhir 2023.
