ESDM Ensures Freeport Smelter Built in Gresik

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) stated that the construction site of PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) smelter will be in Gresik. ESDM Ministry Director General of Mineral and Coal (Minerba) Bambang Gatot Ariyono said that until now Gresik was the main location chosen to be able to build smelters from Freeport.

"In Gresik. If I ask for sure, it must be in Gresik. But if he says no, then," said Bambang at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jakarta.
Even so, Bambang has not been able to explain when the construction will be carried out. He only ensures that the Smelter will be built in Gresik.

"Yes, the point is that in Gresik it has already been built," Bambang explained.
Previously, Bambang said PTFI had not yet determined the location of the smelter construction. At that time, Gresik had become the choice of development location even though it was uncertain.
"For the Freeport smelter in the near future, of course, it will be decided because it cannot hold on for a long time, until now it is still more inclined to Gresik," he said.

Kementerian Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral (ESDM) menyatakan, lokasi pembangunan smelter PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) akan
berada di Gresik. Direktur Jenderal Mineral dan Batubara (Minerba) Kementerian ESDM Bambang Gatot Ariyono mengatakan, hingga saat ini Gresik menjadi lokasi utama yang dipilih untuk bisa membangun smelter dari Freeport.
"Di Gresik. Kalau minta pastinya ya pasti di Gresik di situ sudah. Tapi kalau dia bilang tidak ya sudah," kata Bambang di Kementerian ESDM, Jakarta.
Walau begitu, Bambang belum bisa menjelaskan kapan pembangunan akan dilakukan. Dia hanya memastikan bahwa Smelter akan dibangun di Gresik.
"Ya, intinya di Gresik itu saja sudah membangunnya," jelas Bambang.
Sebelumnya, Bambang mengatakan PTFI belum menentukan lokasi pembangunan smelter. Saat itu, Gresik sudah menjadi pilihan lokasi pembangunan walau belum pasti.
"Untuk Freeport smelter dalam waktu dekat tentunya memutuskan itu karena tidak bisa menahan lama-lama, sampai saat ini masih lebih cenderung ke Gresik," ujarnya.
